MEKONG DELTA
Line up and history of this German band were never made public. End of '85,
begin of '86, the idea exists to start a studio-project with German metal
musicians. It is believed that German musicians are not accepted, so the
mystery around the band is the solution. After they reject the name 'Zardoz',
the name 'Mekong Delta' is used, named after the river in Vietnam. The project
is founded by Ralph Hubert, technician from Warlock, Living Death and Steeler,
also owner from the Aaarrg-label. The first demo's are recorded with Jochen
Schroder (ex-Rage: guitar), Peavy Wagner (Rage: bass), Jorg Michael (ex-Rage an
d
Paganini: drums) and Wolfgang Borgmann (vocals). Jochen Schroder has to go soon
,he's not good enough. He's replaced by Living Death-guitarplayers Reiner Kelch
and Frank Fricke. When Peavy leaves, Ralph Hubert goes playing the bass himself
(on the record he's called Bjorn Eklund). The first album is now released, with
hard metal in the Anthrax-style. After a year of total silence, Ralph and his
men record in '87/'88 the concept-album "The Music of Erich Zann", again
produced by Ralph himself. Despite the mystery (or maybe due to the mystery:
the group never plays live), the band doesn't break through. So some think that
Mekong Delta has ceased to exist. This is not the case, as is proven by the
mini-LP "Toccata", released end of '88, and in '89 the third album, "The
Principle of Doubt" is released by Major-records, a fusion of Aaarrg and Atom H
